La liste a été rendue publique cette semaine par le Minesec. Près d’une vingtaine de manuels pour la section francophone, et six oeuvres pour la section anglophone. La liste des nouveaux manuels scolaires pour l’année 2009 - 2010, est disponible dans les différentes représentations décentralisées du ministère de l’Enseignement secondaire depuis cette semaine. Pour ce nouvel exercice, l’accent a surtout été mis sur la promotion du bilinguisme dans l’enseignement général, avec de nouveaux supports pour les classes de 6e en première. Des oeuvres littéraires et poétiques notamment, renforcées par des manuels de grammaire, viennent s’ajouter à la liste des ouvrages qui serviront de support à l’apprentissage de l’anglais et du français pour les différentes sections.En dehors du « Great expectation » de Charles Diclans au programme des classes de 2nde, la priorité a une nouvelle fois été accordée à des auteurs camerounais et africains. Chinua Achebe avec « No Longer at ease » et Bole Butake avec « Bethrotal without libation » pour les classes de 3e, Pochi Tamba et son « True Love waits » programme en 6e et 5e, ou encore Henry Ntoko et Anne Tanyitang respectivement en 4e et 2nde, font ainsi leur apparition dans la section francophone. Those shopping from superstores risk having their items missing at concierge services. Last Saturday, Beryl Yamak, a resident of Yaounde went shopping in one of the popular supermarkets around the Yaounde Central market. Before entering the supermarket, she kept her plastic bag of items she had brought from another supermarket at the doorkeeper service, where she was given a ticket which carried the number (26)of the locker in which her things where kept. After shopping for close to 45 minutes, Beryl forgot to collect the items she had kept at the doorkeeper service and went home alongside the ticket of the locker which contained her things. After the weekend, Beryl rushed to the supermarket with the ticket number to indicate that she had forgotten her items at the concierge service. To her greatest dismay, the doorkeeper did not seem worried over the fact that she had the ticket of items that he could not trace at his keeping. The doorkeeper impolitely told her that there was no item like what she was looking after and began accusing her of having collected the items but forgot to drop the ticket. The match will be a warm up for the Indomitable Lions ahead of a crucial 2010 qualifier against Gabon in September.
The Cameroonian football governing body, FECAFOOT, has given its approval for a friendly match between the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and the Austrian national football team, expected to take place on August 12, 2009 in Vienna.The match will serve as preparation for the World Cup qualifier against Gabon, as the encounter will take place three weeks before the two African nations face off.Besides the qualification expectation weighing down on the Cameroonians, the match will be the first under the reign of Zoah Michel as Minister of Sports and Physical Education.His appointment raised question as to whether the college of trainers put in place by the former Minister, Augustin Thierry Edjoa, would be maintained. According to the Cameroon Tribune, prior to Edjoa’s removal from government, rumours were rife that he had made a commitment with FECAFOOT and the official sponsor of the Indomitable Lions, Puma, to search for a foreign coach for the national team.

Samuel Eto’o’s next move could be sorted out soon after Barcelona agreed to lower their asking price…
Barcelona and Manchester City are lining up further talks to try and find a solution to the transfer of Samuel Eto’o from the Catalan outfit to the Premier League side, according to a report. The Cameroonian striker is believed to have agreed to a €10 million-a-year contract at Eastlands, but has demanded compensation from Barca for forcing him to move. While that obstacle is also under consideration, the matter of how much Manchester City will have to pay is still ensuring that the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement. Barcelona have offered to lower their asking price of €30 million if City are willing to raise their initial bid to show willing - and talks can then continue, Sport state. With only one season left on his current contact, Barcelona are trying to earn as much from Eto’o’s transfer as possible, with the money then being used to buy David Villa from Valencia.

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today approved an SDR 92.85 million (about US$144.1 million) disbursement under the rapid access component of the Exogenous Shocks Facility (ESF) to help Cameroon weather the effects of the global shocks on its balance of payments. The approval enables the disbursement of the full amount immediately.The IMF financial assistance will help contain the decline in Cameroon’s foreign reserves and ensure that priority outlays (investment, health, and education) are protected.The ESF is designed to provide policy support and financial assistance to low-income countries facing exogenous but temporary shocks. It is available to countries eligible for the Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility (PRGF)—the IMF’s main instrument for financial assistance to low-income countries—but that do not have a PRGF-supported program in place. Financing terms are equivalent to a PRGF arrangement and are more concessional than under other IMF emergency lending facilities.

La mi-journée du 1er juillet 2009, le Premier Ministre prenait ses quartiers à l’immeuble étoile.
Passation de service entre Premier Ministres sortant et entrant, tour du propriétaire certainement. Cérémonie brève mais solennelle où Ephraïm Inoni a engagé ses collaborateurs d’hier à apporter tout le soutien nécessaire à son successeur.Pour les dossiers, du Premier Ministre sont connues, tous les tenants des postes économiques au gouvernement ont été maintenus, les urgences sur le front social sont connues.Le 33e gouvernement de l’ère Biya prend donc progressivement ses marques depuis ce mercredi. Après sa prise de fonction, le premier ministre Yang Philémon a procédé à l’installation des membres du gouvernement nommés hier.Une série de cérémonies menées au pas de charge. Le ministre délégué à la présidence chargé de la défense, le ministre des postes et télécommunications, puis d’autres encore. Au total 9 ministres et secrétaires d’état seront ainsi installés dans leurs nouvelles fonctions.

Un responsable de l’hebdomadaire camerounais Germinal, Jean Bosco Talla, a affirmé jeudi à l’AFP recevoir des “menaces de mort” depuis le 26 juin, deux jours après la publication d’un rapport d’une ONG française évoquant notamment la fortune du président Paul Biya. “Les menaces ont commencé timidement vendredi (26 juin) par des coups de fils anonymes, suivis de SMS. Elles sont devenues fréquentes ces jours-ci”, a expliqué M. Talla, directeur de publication de Germinal. “Le dernier SMS que j’ai reçu ce (jeudi) disait: +T’as qu’à ameuter tout le globe. Cela n’a jamais ramené Zongo (journaliste burkinabè assassiné en 1998, NDLR) ni Guy André Kieffer (journaliste franco-canadien disparu en 2004 en Côte d’Ivoire, NDLR) en vie+”, a-t-il ajouté, précisant poursuivre “normalement” son travail “mais avec beaucoup de prudence”.Les menaces ont été confirmées par plusieurs ONG basées en France, dont la Fédération internationale des ligues des droits de l’Homme (FIDH), dans un communiqué conjoint publié jeudi. Falling production levels and a slump in oil prices have led to a 60 percent drop this year in contributions to the treasury from Cameroon’s state oil company, the firm said in a statement.Like other commodity-driven economies in Central Africa, Cameroon has been hit by lower oil prices, compounded by a drop in production which, for the first four months of 2009, was more than 23 percent down on the same period last year.Cameroon became a modest oil exporter in 1977, with production peaking at 185,000 barrels per day in 1985 before declining sharply to around 85,000 barrels in recent years.”The unfavourable international environment affected the commercial activities of the National Hydrocarbons Corporation (SNH) considerably,” the SNH said in a statement issued late on Wednesday.Credit transfers to the public treasury from the SNH had fallen to 82.81 billion CFA francs for the first four months of the year from just under 207 billion CFA francs for the same period last year, SNH said.

Le réaménagement gouvernemental de mardi dernier est frappé du sceau d’un binôme. Pour la troisième fois depuis le septennat en cours, le président de la République vient de procéder à un réaménagement de l’équipe gouvernementale. L’on a souvenance que le décret présidentiel du 8 décembre 2004 portant organisation du gouvernement, décret intervenu peu après la réélection de Paul Biya à la magistrature suprême le 11 octobre de la même année, a été suivi le même jour par la formation d’une nouvelle équipe gouvernementale dirigée par Ephraim Inoni. Cette équipe a été réaménagée une première fois le 22 septembre 2006, le même PM restant en poste. Près d’un an plus tard, le 7 septembre 2007, suite à un décret présidentiel ayant modifié et complété l’organisation structurelle du gouvernement, le président de la République a procédé au second réaménagement de l’équipe gouvernementale. Tandis que Ephraim Inoni est resté en fonction ce jour-là, la nouvelle structuration a consacré notamment la séparation entre l’Economie et les Finances, avec la création d’un ministère des Finances d’une part et d’un ministère de l’Economie, de la Planification et de l’Aménagement du territoire d’autre part.
